I told you I'd do my best to get these reviews up as soon as possible! I've always loved cream eyeshadows but recently they've become a huge staple in my makeup routine. They're dead easy to apply and is the easiest lazy-girl makeup routine. So when I saw the Maxfactor Excess Shimmer Cream Eyeshadows in Priceline, I was pretty dead set on giving them a try.
Maxfactor is one of those brands that I haven't experimented with a lot. In fact, the only other product I have is an eyeliner that's lying in my drawers somewhere, so this was a new and enlightening experience. The packaging is quite standard - glass container with a screw top lid to access the product. It contains quite a bit more product than the Maybelline alternative that I'm so familiar with; almost double.
But the largest difference is that actual texture of the product. You'll find that it's a LOT softer than the Maybelline offering. The texture is quite similar to a mousse - it's quite soft and very easy to blend out, especially if you like sheering out your shadow. It's also quite wet, but give it a little time and it dries on the lid and sets. The effect on the lids is a lot more subtle, and they have more of a shimmery finish to them rather than a metallic one. However they are very easy to build up to get a much more pigmented colour over the lids, rather than just a wash of colour.
I have the colours in 20 Copper (which obviously isn't copper) and 25 Bronze. Copper looks quite similar to the cult Maybelline Colour Tattoo in Bad to the Bronze, but a bit more silvery and a lot sheerer. What a misleading name. It's also very similar to to the Benefit Creasesless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit, but the Maxfactor one is a bit more pink in tone, and the Josie Maran Coconut Watercolour Eyeshadow in Playa Del Pink is identical in colour, but has a much more metallic finish on the eyes.
Bronze is a much warmer, darker brown with gold shimmers throughout. It's quite different to all the eyeshadows I own, both powder and cream. It has some very warm golden undertones to it, rather than more reddish bases most brown eyeshadows have.
I have to say, these eyeshadows are pretty great. They're easy to use and great for an everyday look that makes it look like you've actually tried and spent a lot of effort on your eye makeup.
