The Maybelline Colour Drama lipstickscome in 10 gorgeous shades and honestly look just like your standard pencil. I
also like the simplistic design of the packaging. They’re small, compact and
easy to use. The product is a little drier than the Nars offering so it does
tug on the lips a little during application, but it’s nothing worth complaining
about. Longevity is pretty decent as well. It won’t stand up to a greasy meal
but if you’re not slurping spaghetti or chowing down on a burger, it should
last you through the day. Even if you’ve even a whole pizza, the darker and
brighter shades leave a bit of a light stain on the lips.
I have
the shades 410 Fab Orange, an almost-red sort of orange offering, 520 Light It Up, which is more of a true bright red and 310 Berry Much, a beautiful purple-berry shade. They’re all beautiful on the lips and don’t give a patchy colour
application or dry out the lips. All the shades are matte though so if you want
something with a bit more shine to them, you’ll need a gloss or balm over the
top.
Overall,
these pencils are really very good. At less than $10 a piece, these lip pencils
give the Nars ones a run for their money. The Nars Lip Pencils obviously have a
lot more colours and finishes (matte, satin or velvet gloss finishes) to their range, but these are a good drugstore alternative.
Maybelline is really killing it with their products. It’s just hit after hit.
