Oops it looks like I missed last Thursday’s post. But that’s
okay! I’ll try my best to make up for it this week.
When it comes to eyeshadow, I’m pretty boring. Every time, I
run towards the neutrals and to be honest, who doesn’t? They’re the easiest
colours to wear and the most natural looking. Not too many people like parading
down the street with blue eyeshadow. But I want some variety to my shadows.
There are only so many neutral eye palettes you can buy.
So when the new Hourglass palette hit the stores, I tried my
hardest to venture out of my comfort zone, and instead of going home with
another boring (but so insanely beautiful) neutral palette, I went with the
purple one. Yep you read that right. Purple.
The Hourglass Modernist Eyeshadow Palette in Exposure has a very plummy colour theme
to it. Like all Hourglass products, it comes in the beautifully sleek
packaging. But when you open that beauty up, it’s a whole new level of art. The
flowing design inside is simply stunning. Admittedly, I worry a lot about accidentally getting my darker shadows mixed in with the lighter ones, but if I’m
careful, I’m sure nothing will happen.
To be honest, there are mixed reviews over the blogosphere
about this one, and I can understand the arguments on both side. Some of the
shadows are quite patchy, especially the matte ones, which definitely
contributed to my decision to get the purple palette. It has one of the least
amount of matte shadows in the range. However, although the colour can go on a
little patchy, the pigmentation is beautiful on all of the shadows, which I
think contributes to the unevenness of the application sometimes. They’re a
little difficult to blend out and use, but given a little time and a lot of
blending, it does look beautiful on the eyes. It’s also definitely one where
you’ll want to use an eye primer. If you don’t the shadows tend to disappear
throughout the day.
While I do adore this palette, I’m not too sure I’d buy
another one. There are a few singular colours that I really enjoy (like that
beautiful smokey blue in Graphite) but as I mentioned before, I have enough
neutral palettes to last me a lifetime. Not that’s I’m going to stop myself
from buying some more. Yes, Urban Decay Naked Palettes, I’m looking at you.
EDIT: It have come here today to mourn the loss of a beautiful palette. My poor Hourglass palette met it's end when it fell out of my hands and hit the floor. Okay so I'm being melodramatic and it's really fine. I managed to crack the lightest shade but it's all back where it's supposed to be, if not a lot messier and no where near as beautiful as before. But it still works, so I suppose it should be fine by me.
