Although this week has been pretty bleak, Australian summers are renowned for being humid and burning hot, almost like the sun is out to kill you. Spend any period of time outdoors and you start to feel your skin starting to burn. So SPF is an absolute must, and this is what I've been using on my skin in the scorching summer heat.
Sunscreen is a hugely important to protect your skin from sun damage. I have so many sunspots that have just come up from way too much sun exposure, so whenever I leave the house I make sure to layer on the sunscreen. Usually in the summertime I also go crazy with the sunscreen for my body, but I do use facial sunscreen whenever I leave the house, whatever season it is. Currently, I'm using the Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen SPF 50. It's quite thick in consistency but it meshes with the skin quite well and is quite water resistant too. However they recently came out with one that's specifically for the face and thinner in texture as well, but I haven't given it a go yet. I also like the La Roche Posay Anthelios XL SPF 50 which is a lot lighter and more watery in consistency, but still provides the same amount of sun protection.
For my body, I like using thin spray sunscreens because they're easier to apply and rub into the skin. At the moment I'm using the Priceline SPF 30 Sunscreen Spray Lotion. The nozzle tends to spurt the sunscreen out in a jet rather than a spritz, so it's a little messy, but it get's the job done.
Because most foundations and moisturisers have an added SPF to them for that extra sun protection factor, layering that on top of your sunscreen adds even more protection from those harmful UV rays. Recently I've been using the Benefit Hello Flawless Foundation as it's quite a light consistency and coverage - and really quick to apply in the mornings - but still has SPF 25. When I'm having a lazy day, the Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser is still a go to product, providing serious hydration with light coverage and SPF 20.
The plan for my summertime is to slather myself in sunscreen so I don't get any more tanned... Don't want to spend my time looking like a baked lobster.
