As you might be able to tell from the title, these are my top three lipstick picks from the drugstore. More specifically, these are my top three matte lip picks from the drugstore. I love a good matte lipstick, and the drugstore offers up a few really nice offerings if you're a beginner and just getting started or just a little uncomfortable with the idea of matte lips and want to give things a go before investing in that MAC lipstick that everyone rants about.
The Lip Pencil — Maybelline Colour Drama: You may or may not have heard about these products being really good dupes for the Nars lip pencils. Those rumours are pretty true. The Maybelline ones are a little less creamy, a little more drying and do tug a little bit more at the lips, but with the massive difference in price, I'd say it's pretty worth it. The staying power of the Maybelline ones are also a little better because of its drier texture, and it doesn't necessarily dry the lips out. So a good application of lip balm before the lip pencil itself would solve that probelm. It's a great lip pencil that can be used to line the lips, or as all over colour. I've been meaning to buy the nude shade, but everytime I remember to look for it, it's always sold out...
The Old Favourite — Revlon Matte Balm: If you know me at all, you'd know that I absolutely adore these, probably since the moment they hit the shelves. They're creamy, moisturising and wonderfully pigmented, although they do tend to have more of a satin matte finish due to its creaminess. I don't think there's anything else like them on the shelves, both high end and at the drugstore. They come in a wonderful variety of colours from the crazy hot pink end of the spectrum to the classic nude and pink shades. They don't have the longest lasting power, but they're really easy to apply in their little twist up crayon form, so it's not as big of a problem as with other matte lipsticks.
The Liquid Lipstick — Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet: I love a good liquid lipstick, and these are probably some of my favourite matte lip products ever. Not just out of the liquid lipsicks, but all lipsticks. The Bourjois Rouge Velvets are crazy pigmented and just have this formula that allows them to go on the lips so smoothly. The applicator is really easy to use to get that precise line that you want with liquid lipsticks. Also, the formula itself layers really well without any weird clumping or flaking, which is a definite plus in my books. It also lasts for an amazingly long time, even through food and drinks, though it may not survive that greasy pizza that you're craving.
An honorable mention definitely goes to the Rimmel Kate Moss matte lipsticks, which have a similar feel to them as the Revlon Matte Balms, but a little bit less creamy and a litt more matte. They come in a wonderful range of colours and go on wonderfully as well. I know it's cheating to add an honrable mention, but these are really, really good and they deserve the shout out.
