United in Mourning

Today marks a dark day in Australian history where we mourn the loss of two innocent lives to an insane and deluded man, and the loss of the hope and faith we have in humanity and the safety of our home. We mourn for the death of two wonderfully intelligent and brave souls who stayed strong throughout their ordeal until the end and we pray for the wellbeing of other hostages and all of their family who were affected by this terrible ordeal. It is such a tragedy that this man could harm so many people in Sydney, our home where we opened up our arms and granted him political asylum to allow him to lead a new life. This ordeal has opened up our eyes to the tension throughout the world; that we are no longer safe in our own homes and that any one of us could've been one of those going about our ordinary lives before being trapped with a madman.

But throughout this terrible pain, we as Australians will stand tall and come together to ride through this tragedy and come out the other end, united and stronger than ever before. Because we support each other and have faith in our neighbours so that together, all of us, can have a wonderfully safe home to live in. May we never forget the innocent victims that lost their lives today protecting the wonderful strength that we call Sydney.
