Hooray for summertime! It's the time for sweat, mosquitos, swimming pools and scorching heat waves. That's Australian summers for you. I think my main goal when it comes to summer makeup is flawless bronze glowing skin that stays in place throughout the humidity and rivers of sweat.
First step is starting off with a primer to make sure the foundation stays on all day without sliding off my face or being eaten by my skin. I've been reaching for my Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer to give my face a flawless base. It smooths out any sort of weird bumpiness that's on my skin and makes a noticeable difference in keeping my foundation on my face for longer.
For my foundation, I like using the Revlon Nearly Naked Foundation in 150 Nude because it gives a nice sheer coverage and looks just like skin, but gives enough colour to cover up my hyperpigmentation. It's nice a lightweight and really easy to mesh into the skin as well. The only downside is that it doesn't come with a pump and is therefore a little difficult to control how much product comes out.
To set my foundation, I've been using my Hourglass AmbientLighting Powder in Dim Light. It really is like photoshop for your real life face. It glides over the skin to give this flawless finish to any foundation, just like how your skin looks perfect in dim light. It has a tiny bit of a sheen to it, but isn't shimmery or glittery. it just makes your skin look beautiful and glowing from within. And it really does make a noticeable difference in making sure I'm not shining like a disco ball at the end of the day.
For warming up my skin, I've been using the Nars Bronzer in Laguna as a contour for my non-existent cheekbones and as a bronzer. It has a tiny bit of a shimmer to it if you look really carefully into the pan, but that doesn't translate on the skin.
The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush Palette is what I've been reaching for as my blush options because it contains a colour for every mood and occasion. They have the same sort of silky feel to them as the Ambient Lighting Powder and therefore feels so soft and silky on the skin and makes you look like your cheeks are actually glowing with colour.
Of course to make my skin wonderfully glowy, I love my Topshop Highlighter in Crescent Moon. It’s probably my favourite highlighter. The soft buttery texture makes it really easy to apply and it is super pigmented. Also, the iridescence of the highlight gives a really nice sheen to the skin with absolutely no hint of glitter. Unfortunately, I think this is discontinued... Looks like Ill need to go on the hunt for another amazing highlighter that preferably doesn't cost a fortune.
For my eyes, I’ve been loving the Josie Maran CoconutWatercolour Eyeshadows, especially the one in Rio De Rose Gold. It’s a gorgeous coppery rose gold shade that just adds a healthy summer glow to your eyelids to match your gorgeous glowing skin. It’s definitely not waterproof, so try to heading anywhere where you know you’re going to get wet, but other than that it has incredible lasting power. It’s amazing.
Obviously for my eyes, I’m still loving the Stila Stay All DaySmudgestick in Stingray. It’s my favourite pencil liner as it just goes on so smoothly, it doesn’t tug on my eyelid and one swipe gives you some seriously opaque colour that just doesn’t budge once it’s set.
I’m still loving my corals for the summer and this summer I’ve been whipping out the Revlon Colorstay Moisture Stain in 025Cannes Crush. The main reason why I’ve been loving this is because it leaves a lovely stain on the lips, so even when the glossy finish fades, you still have a wonderful coral colour left on the lips. It has great pigmentation and goes on really nice and smoothly as well.
Finally, to make sure the makeup stays where it should, I’ve been finishing things off with the Nyx Dewy Finish Setting Spray. It locks everything into place and makes sure nothing looks crazy powdery either. I’m definitely one for a dewy finish, but if you have oilier skin or just prefer something more matte, they have a matte finish setting spray was well.
That’s it for this summer edit! I would love some recommendations if you have any. Look forward to some more Christmas posts coming out. I thought I was done shopping but no, I just keep spending. And therefore you get more holiday collection posts!
