The Seasonal Edit: Spring 2014

We are halfway through spring, so I thought it was high time to share my picks for the season.

Come springtime, I tend to go with a lighter base. My skin has been doing alright recently, so I haven't felt the need to pull out the heavier coverage products, but I'm sure once I have a couple nasty breakouts and serious hyperpigmentation, a fuller coverage foundation will be high up there on the list of things I need in my life. But in the meantime, I've been going with the Laura Mercier Oil Free Tinted Moisturiser. I'm in the shade Nude, and I feel this give the perfect amount of light coverage that I need on good skin days. It has an SPF of 15, so it adds a little bit of sun protection as well. It’s also super easy to apply. I just work it into my skin with my fingers, rather than bothering to pull out a brush or a sponge.

I’m definitely a blush lover, and the peachy-pinker it is the better. I adore my Nars blush in Orgasm, as I feel it’s the perfect peachy pink with golden shimmers. Another one that I feel is really similar, albeit a little peachier and a whole lot cheaper, is the Topshop blush in Do It Again. It’s a light peach colour with golden shimmers. Definitely peachier than the Nars version, but on the cheeks it gives a similar, face-perking effect.

I’ve also been really loving cream blushes. I’ve recently pulled my Revlon Colorstay blush in Coral Reef back out of its hidey-hole. It’s a cream to powder finish in this gorgeous bright coral colour. It’s nowhere near that bright on the cheeks but it does perk up my complexion a bit and give a nice flush to the face.

I'm definitely one for glowing skin all year round, and I feel come springtime it's time to up the luminising game. Recently, I’ve really been liking the Topshop Glow Pot in Gleam. It gives a nice golden glow to the skin. The consistency is quite thick, but it’s easily and I don’t feel like it moves any of the powder products it’s applied on top of.

For eyes, I’ve recently been toning down my eyeshadow and eyeliner to a bare minimum and going with lashings of mascara instead. I’m really liking that sort of effortless look, and it’s really easy to pair a bright lip with that eye as well without looking too overdone, as I felt before. I’ve been using the Nyx Jumbo Eye Pencil in French Fries smudged over my eye with lashings of the Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara. The mascara is a bit clumpy and the wand isn’t my favourite, but I feel it does give me some nice long lashes. Shame it doesn’t hold a curl too well though, so if that’s what you’re after, maybe give this one a pass. I usually layer it with another mascara to hold and separate my lashes to give them a chance of staying perky.

Now onto my favourite topic of all; lipsticks. Spring is the season to put away your deep berry toned lip colours and time to whip out the pinks and oranges! I’m loving the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Frambourgouise for a pop of bright pink. Something else I’m loving is the MAC lipstick in See Sheer. It’s a beautiful sheer coral colour that adds a little colour to the lips but it’s not too much, so it’s really wearable.

And those are my springtime picks! Maybe I’ll do this again for summer as well. Let me know if you’d like to see that. We can keep a series going. What are your favourites for spring?
