If you're anything like me, you hate reapplying lipstick. It's troublesome, having to pull out a mirror and carefully redraw your lips so you don't look like a clown. Again, if you're like me, you also like a good bold lip. Combine these two problems and you can almost understand why bold lips are too much of a hassle for some people. Almost. The Rimmel Provocalips are a new long-lasting liquid lipstick offering. I love a good long lasting lipstick, I love a good matte lipstick and I love a good liquid lipstick. What could go wrong?
These are a two step process; the first is to heap the colour on, and the second step is a balmy gloss. The lip prints on the packaging is a little tacky and childish, but it's not a huge problem. The colour is applied with a doe foot applicator and it's dead easy. If you can apply lip gloss, you can apply this, though a little effort goes a long way in making the edges look nice and sharp.
Pigmentation is amazing - just one good swipe is enough for the lips to look pretty darn good. Once applied, it's important to hold your lips in a creepy smile pose to make sure the product doesn't settle into the lines on your mouth, but that's the same with most matte liquid lipsticks. And that's it you're done. If you're going for a matte look, you'll want to put a balm underneath - this product is drying - but other than that, it's a perfect lipstick. If you want a more glossy look, we move along to step two. Apply the gloss and we're good to go. There's no need to be perfect so just smack it on. It's a great high-shine gloss, but it's also a little more balmy than your average gloss. I like the feel of it a lot better than many other glosses, especially as it isn't stick either. It also removes the dry feeling the matte lip colour has.
I bought these in the shade 730 Make Your Move, which is a deep browny pink shade (like your average Kylie Jenner shade) and 550 Play With Fire, which is a bright red colour. Both of them apply like a dream.
Wear time on these are amazing. Even through a whole day of talking, eating, drinking and everything else that you do with your mouth, the colours will last. If you're eating a lot of oil foods, it does tend to wear a little bit, but there are no problems with these lip colours lasting on your lips for hours on end. Not sure about the 16 hour claims though - haven't needed to wear my lipstick for so long. The other wonderful thing about these is that even when the gloss wears off, your lips don't feel dry enough for a reapplication of it.
The only negative is that they're a little bit difficult to remove at night. You'll need a good oil-based remover. Bioderma won't do the trick, though I have used my Neutrogena Oil-Free remover and it works a charm. But I'll happily use a few more seconds at night rubbing my lips in exchange for brilliant long lasting lip colour. Remind me to buy a few more shades.
